From Gordon Wilson – 1
I was one of the “younger” missionaries, arriving in early August of 1972. Greatest experience of my life! Elders Thompson and McConkie took me to the train after my arrival in Madrid, late at night, and sent me to Málaga. I was in a litera (sleeper car) with a family of Andaluces who were eating oranges and sunflower seeds. I couldn’t understand a word they were saying. I worried all night that I would miss my stop. Nobody explained to me that Málaga was the end of the line. Elder Udall met me at the train the next morning. His first words as he pulled his tie up above his head, “Elder, if I had as long to go on my mission as you have on yours I’d hang myself!” Welcome to Spain!
